An anal fistula is a sore that forms between the end of the intestine and the skin of the anus, creating a small tunnel that causes symptoms such as pain, redness, and bleeding from the anus. It usually appears after an anus abscess, however, it can also be caused by inflammatory bowel diseases, such as Crohn’s disease or diverticulitis, for example.
